В очередной выпуск «Археологических вестей» включены статьи, посвященные новейшим исследованиям в области археологии, истории и культуры. В работах, входящих в раздел «Новые открытия и исследования», рассматриваются отдельные категории археологических древностей от каменного века до нового времени; вводятся в научный оборот результаты полевых изысканий могильников Чалтырский эпохи бронзы на Нижнем Дону и Ореховка раннежелезного века в Крыму; анализируются воинские погребения самбийско-натангийской культуры периода Великого переселения народов и раннемеровингского времени; обсуждаются особенности деревоземляных укреплений Рюрикова городища под Новгородом IX в. и фортификации крепости Ниеншанц второй половины XVII в. В журнале также представлены статьи по истории и организации науки, дается обзор новейших публикаций. Среди авторов — ученые из различных научных центров России, Болгарии и Франции.

The current issue of “Archaeological News“ comprises articles devoted to the latest investigations in the sphere of archaeology, history and culture. The works included into the section “New discoveries and studies” consider particular categories of archaeological antiquities from the Stone Age to the Modern Period; results of field investigations of the burial grounds of Chaltyrsky of the Bronze Age on the Lower Don and Orekhovka of the early Iron Age in Crimea are scientifically published, military burials of the Sambia-Natangia culture of the Great Migration period are analysed, the features of the earth and wood fortifications of Ryurik Gorodishche of the 9th century near Novgorod are considered, as well as the defences of Nyenskans of the second half of the 17th century. The yearbook also presents articles on the history and organisation of science and a review of the most recent publications. Among the authors there are colleagues from different scientific centres of Russia, Bulgaria and France.

NEW DISCOVERIES AND STUDIES

Анисюткин Н. К. Орудия категории пик в древнейшем раннем палеолите юга Восточно-Европейской равнины

Аннотация. В статье описывается группа каменных орудий категории пик, обнаруженная в нижних слоях эоплейстоценовой стоянки Байраки (Приднестровье). Сейчас это самая древняя стоянка раннего палеолита Восточно-Европейской равнины. Серии аналогичных орудий ранее были найдены в древнейшем палеолите Кавказа и Тамани, где они были прослежены на отрезке времени от 1,8 до 0,5 млн лет — от олдованской эпохи до середины ашельской. В отличие от Кавказа на юге Восточно-Европейской равнины (в Приднестровье) эти формы существовали лишь в первой половине ашельской эпохи, но неизвестны позднее.

Anisyutkin N. K. Stone tools of the pick category in the Earliest Palaeolithic of the south of the East European Plain

Annotation. The paper is devoted to a group of stone tools of the pick category from the lower layers of the Bayraki Eopleistocene site. These stone tools belong to the earliest Lower Palaeolithic of the south of the East European Plain. Similar forms of tools were previously revealed in the Oldowan complexes of the Caucasus and Taman Peninsula, where they occur together with handaxes up to the Mid-Acheulian epoch. In the south of Eastern Europe (Lower Transnistria), these tools and single axes are found only in the first half of the Acheulian but are unknown later.

Чечина А. Ю., Бардакова П. А. К вопросу о раннекатакомбном этапе на Правобережье Нижнего Дона

Аннотация. В статье публикуются материалы среднего бронзового века из курганов 65 и 66 могильника Чалтырский I на Нижнем Дону. Подробно рассмотрены катакомбные комплексы. На основе планиграфии курганов, конструктивных особенностей катакомб, специфики погребального обряда и анализа инвентаря построена хронологическая последовательность захоронений. Часть проанализированных погребений относится к наиболее раннему типу катакомб Северо-Восточного Приазовья.

Chechina A. Yu., Bardakova P. A. To the problem of the early catacomb stage on the right bank of the Lower Don

Annotation. This paper publishes materials of the middle Bronze Age from kurgans nos. 65 and 66 at the burial ground of Chaltyrsky I on the Lower Don River. The details of the catacomb complexes are discussed. The chronological sequence of the burials is defined on the basis of the plans of the barrows, construction features of the catacombs, the specifics of the funerary rite and analysis of the grave goods. Some of the examined burials are dated to the earliest type of the catacomb graves in the North-Eastern Azov Sea region.

Яйленко В. П. Оракулы из Ольвии, наговор с Чайки в Западном Крыму

Аннотация. Автор исследует два граффити на черепках из Ольвии, они вызвали оживленную дискуссию в литературе. Автор уточняет их текстологию, интерпретацию, датировку. По его мнению, это оракулы IV в. до н. э. с предупреждением о смерти. Видимо, это фигуральная «смерть от любви». Граффито I в. до н. э. — I в. н. э. на обломке блюда с поселения Чайка издатель понял как хозяйственную запись о торговле топазами. По мнению автора, это наговор с пожеланием смерти четырем женщинам и двум мужчинам. Почти все личные имена туземные. Писец — замечательный каллиграф, у него навыки курсивного письма. В Северном Причерноморье это самый поздний наговор.

Yaylenko V. P. Oracles from Olbia, the incantation from Chayka in Western Crimea

Annotation. The author studies two graffiti on ceramic sherds, which were widely discussed in the literature. He has proposed more precise text, interpretation and dating: the inscriptions are oracles warning certain death. It possibly is metaphorical “death from love”. A graffito of the 1 BC or 1 AD on a dish from the Chaika settlement in the Western Crimea is defixio, its author wish four women and two men to die. Almost all names are native. An author of the inscription is beautiful calligrapher, he is skilled in a cursive script. This defixio is the latest in the North Pontic area.

Рукавишникова И. В., Бейлин Д. В., Волошинов А. А. Могильник раннежелезного века в Крымском Присивашье. Воинские погребения

Аннотация. Могильник относится к поселению Ореховка и расположен в нескольких сотнях метрах к востоку от восточной периферии поселения. В погребальные конструкции бронзового века были впущены ямы погребений раннего железного века. Могильник грунтовый с погребениями рядового населения, в том числе воинским. Погребения были совершены в ямах, ямах с подбоями и катакомбах. Погребальный инвентарь (амфоры с клеймами, лепная керамика, скифское оружие, зеркало, серьги и стеклянные бусины) позволяет датировать исследованные комплексы IV в. до н. э. Подобные предметы в сочетании с конструкциями погребальных ям находят аналогии среди синхронных скифских памятников Присивашья.

Rukavishnikova I. V., Beilin D. V., Voloshinov A. A. The burial ground of the early Iron Age in the Crimean Sivash. Military burials

Annotation. The burial ground described in this work belongs to the Orekhovka settlement, as it is located several hundred meters from the eastern periphery of the settlement. Burial pits of the early Iron Age were let into the burial structures of the Bronze Age. Ground repository with burials of the ordinary population, including with a military burial. Burials were committed in pits, catacombs and pit-holes. The complexes are dated of the 4th century BC on clothing funeral complexes, which include amphora with hallmarks, stucco ceramics, Scythian weapons, a mirror, earrings and glass beads in various combinations. A similar funerary set of objects in combination with the constructions of the funerary pits corresponds to the Scythian monuments of this time near Sivash.

Шауб И. Ю., Терещенко А. Е. Подтверждается ли гипотеза М. И. Ростовцева о фракийском происхождении образов сатиров на монетах Пантикапея?

Аннотация. По мнению М. И. Ростовцева, представленные на боспорских монетах головы бородатых силенов и безбородых сатиров являются изображениями «местного, возможно фракийского, божества, великого бога растительности, который стал греческим Дионисом и который иногда фигурирует в виде бородатого силена на монетах греко-фракийских городов». Ряд данных подтверждает правоту гипотезы великого русского ученого.

Schaub I. Yu., Tereshchenko A. E. Is Michail Rostovtsev’s hypothesis on the Thracian origin of satyr images on the Panticapaean coins valid?

Annotation. In the opinion of Mikhail I. Rostovtsev, the heads of bearded Sileni and unbearded satyrs depicted on Bosporan coins are representations of the “local, possibly Thracian deity, the great god of vegetation, who became the Greek Dionysus and who occasionally figures in the form of a bearded Silenus on coins of Greco-Thracian cities”. A series of data prove the rightness of this hypothesis of the great Russian scholar.

Чореф М. М. Оболы Пантикапея типа «голова Аполлона / орел на молнии» как источник исторической информации

Аннотация. Статья посвящена анализу изображений и надписей на оболах типа «голова Аполлона / орел на молнии» с дифферентами «Δ» и «Ε» на реверсе. Они примечательны также тем, что отчеканены не из монет прежних эмиссий, а на заново отлитых заготовках. Автор приходит в выводу, что эти монеты были выпущены Фарнаком II в Диоскуриаде и в Евпатории после подчинения Херсонеса и во время похода в Понт.

Choref M. M. Pantikapaion Obols of the type “head of Apollo / eagle on lightning” as a source of historic information

Annotation. This paper is devoted to analysis of representations and inscriptions on obols of the type of “head of Apollo / eagle on lightning” with marks “Δ” and “Ε” on the reverse. They are notable also by the fact that they are struck not from coins of previous emissions but from newly cast blanks. The author comes to the conclusion that these coins were issued by Pharnakos II in Dioskurias and Eupatorion after the subjecting of Chersonesos during the raid to the Pontus.

Казанский М. М. Стратификация погребений с оружием и всадническим снаряжением в могильниках самбийско-натангийской культуры эпохи Великого переселения народов и раннемеровингского времени

Аннотация. Для самбийско-натангийской культуры эпохи Великого переселения народов и раннемеровингского времени, соответствующей эстиям, выявлено более 180 погребений с оружием и шпорами этого времени. Оружие как социальный маркер играет ограниченную роль, однако находки шпор, щитов и характерных поясов, а также наличие могил вождей свидетельствуют о формировании «воинской» цивилизации эстиев.

Kazansky M. M. Stratification of burials with weapons and equestrian equipment in the burial grounds of the Sambian-Natangian culture of the Migration Period and the Early Merovingian Period

Annotation. For the Sambian-Natangian culture of the Migration Period and the Early Merovingian time, which corresponds to the Aestii, more than 180 burials with weapons and horse spurs of this time have been identified. Weapons play a limited role as a social marker, but the finds of spurs, shields and characteristic belts, as well as the presence of the graves of the leaders, testify to the formation of the “military” civilization of the Aestians.

Аннотация. В статье проанализированы данные об укреплениях Рюрикова городища, полученные в результате многолетних работ экспедиции с учетом новейших открытий, привнесших дополнительный фактический материал, который позволил предложить несколько иную интерпретацию общего облика этого грандиозного оборонительного сооружения второй половины IX в.

Khvoshchinskaya N. V. Fortifications of Ryurik Gorodishche near Novgorod in the light of the last archaeological explorations

Annotation. This paper analyses the evidence on fortifications of Ryurik Gorodishche obtained during the Novgorod expedition’s works of many years considering also the latest discoveries which have yielded additional factual data enabling the researchers to propose some revised interpretation of this grandiose defensive installation of the second half of the 9th century.

Пекарская Л. По следам забытого киевского клада, найденного в 1876 г.

Аннотация. Статья посвящена богатому по содержанию, но частично разграбленному киевскому кладу XI — начала XII в., найденному в усадьбе Игнатия Лескова в 1876 г. Впервые детально описаны история его обнаружения, поступление в музейные и частные коллекции, атрибутированы предметы, потерявшие со временем связь с кладом, а также отнесенные к нему ошибочно. Парность и сходство наборов женских украшений может свидетельствовать о родственной связи их владельцев. Впервые публикуются документы и рисунки отдельных предметов клада, сохранившиеся в фонде Императорской археологической комиссии.

Pekarskaya L. On the trail of a forgotten Kievan treasure found in 1876

Annotation. The article is focuses on the rich but partially looted Kievan treasure of the 11th and early 12 centuries discovered on the estate of Ignatius Leskov in 1876. It is the first in depth study on the history of the find, with full attributions, details of the whereabouts of all items — museums and private collections — and a review of how some individual items became disassociated from the find while others were erroneously linked to it. Matching and similar combinations of women’s jewellery reveal family connections of the owners of the pieces. Documents and drawings of individual treasure items that were preserved within the Imperial Archaeological Commission’s collection are also being published for the first time.

Пескова А. А. Древнерусские иконки-складни XII–XIII вв.

Аннотация. Статья посвящена систематизации малоизученной группы памятников древнерусского культового литья — металлическим иконкам-складням. На основе изучения иконографических и морфологических признаков центральных створок было выделено три основных типа иконок-складней домонгольского периода, асучетомварьирующихсябоковыхстворок— семьвариантов(прямоугольных— четыре, арочных— один, с треугольным завершением — два), а также их реплики; прослежено развитие этой традиции во времени (вторая половина XII — XIII в.).

Peskova A. A. Old-Russian folding icons of the 12th–13th century

Annotation. This paper is devoted to systematization of a poorly studied group of Early Russian works of cult casting — metal skladni (folding icons). Basing on studies of iconographic and morphological features of the central panels, three major types of folding icons of the pre-Mongol period have been distinguished, while, considering varied lateral panels, there are seven variants (4 — rectangular, 1 — arched, 2 — with triangular terminals), as well as their replicas; the evolution of this tradition is traced in time (second half of the 12th–13th century).

Аннотация. В статье рассматривается комплекс из 13 пражских грошей Вацлава IV, найденных весной 2020 г. в деревне Староселье Брянской области. На основании типологии J. Hána приводится классификация монет. Публикуются результаты рентгенофлуоресцентного анализа сплава пражских грошей и данные их метрических показателей. Комплекс следует рассматривать как часть большого депозита, маленький клад или потерянный кошелек. Его формирование происходило, вероятнее всего, в первые десятилетия XV в.

Gorlov K. V., Minenko V. V., Razumov I. N. Assemblage of Prague groschens from the village of Staroselye in Bryansk Oblast

Annotation. This paper considers the assemblage of 13 Prague groschens of Vaclav IV found in spring of 2020 in the village of Staroselye of Bryansk Oblast. A classification of the coins is proposed basing on J. Hána’s typology. The results of X-ray fluorescent analysis of the alloy of the Prague groschens and data on their metric parameters are presented. The complex discussed may have been part of a large deposit, a small hoard or a lost purse. Its formation took place most probably in the first decades of the 15th century.

Сорокин П. Е. Укрепления Ниеншанца второй половины XVII в.

Аннотация. В статье рассказывается о фортификационных сооружениях крепости Ниеншанц второй половины XVII в., изученных на основе историко-археологических сведений. Сохранившийся комплекс крепостных сооружений Ниеншанца представляет собой уникальный памятник североевропейской земляной фортификации второй половины XVII в., включает малоизвестную информацию о структуре и деталях конструкции оборонительной системы бастионных крепостей нового времени. В работе подробно рассматриваются отдельные элементы укреплений крепостного рва Ниеншанца: деревоземляные конструкции стенок, сортии, стрелковые площадки, частокольные заграждения, контрминные ходы.

Sorokin P. E. Fortifications of Nyenskans of the second half of the 17th century

Annotation. This paper tells about the fortification installations of the fortress of Nyenskans of the second half of the 17th century studied basing on historical and archaeological evidence. The survived complex of defensive structures of Nyenskans is a unique monument of the north European earthen defensive works of the second half of the 17th century and comprises poorly known information on the structure and details of the defensive system of bastion fortresses of the modern period. This work examines in detail particular elements of the fortifications of the defensive moat of Nyenskans: wood and earth constructions of the walls, sorties, shooting platforms, stockade barriers, and countermine passages.

Аннотация. Статья посвящена проблемам изучения бытовых кресальных кремней, встречающихся в культурных слоях городов начиная со средневековья. Рассматриваются признаки, позволяющие выделить их из общей массы находок кремня, описывается последовательность формирования следов износа, определяющих морфологию и морфономию этих предметов, выделяются типы кресальных кремней.

Annotation. This paper is devoted to problems of studies of domestic flint firestrikers encountered in the cultural layers of mediaeval cities. Indications allowing us to distinguish them from the general numbers of finds of flint are considered, the sequence of the formation of the traces of wear defining the morphology of these objects is described and the types of firestriking stones are identified.

Гергова Д. 150-летие Болгарской академии наук и Национальный археологический институт и музей Болгарии

Аннотация. В 2019 г. Болгарская академия наук (БАН), родоначальником которой является учрежденное в 1869 г. Болгарское книжное общество, отмечает свое 150-летие. Одно из важнейших событий этого празднования — первая заграничная выставка средневековой Томичевой псалтыри, хранящейся в Государственном историческом музее в Москве. Выставка проходила в одном из старейших и престижных институтов БАН — Национальном археологическом институте и музее. Также состоялось оглашение новых иностранных почетных членов, между которыми был и представитель Российской археологической науки.

Gergova D. 150th anniversary of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the National Archaeological Institute and Museum of Bulgaria

Annotation. The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS), successor of the Bulgarian Learned Society founded in 1869, celebrated in 2019 its 150 anniversary. One of the most important events of this celebration was the opening of the first exhibition abroad of the mediaeval Tomić Psalter from the archives of the State Museum of History in Moscow. Exhibition had place at one of the oldest and prestigious institutions of the BAS — The National Archaeological Institute and Museum (NIAM). Names of the newly elected honorable members of the NIAM were announced here. The representative of the Russian archaeology was among them.

Кашуба М. Т., Сапожников И. В. Раскопки М. Я. Якимовича в 1905 г. у с. Гофнунгсталь в Северо-Западном Причерноморье (по материалам архива ИАК)

Аннотация. Статья посвящена сотрудничеству ИАК с М. К. Якимовичем в 1905 г., отраженному в деле «О расследовании могильника близ с. Гофнунгсталь Херсонской губ.», которое хранится в Рукописном отделе НА ИИМК РАН. Тогда были проведены раскопки двух курганов (материалы одного из них относятся к позднему бронзовому веку), прошурфовано ногайское поселение XVІІ–XVІІІ вв. и исследованы 20 безынвентарных могил на принадлежащем ему кладбище, где М. К. Якимович собрал весьма представительную коллекцию антропологических материалов. Что касается памятников буджакских ногайцев, то на основе данных картографии конца XVІІІ в. их можно предположительно, но вполне обоснованно связать с аулом Реджеп (позже с. Режепово), описанным военным инженером Ф. П. де Воланом в 1791 г.

Kashuba M. T., Sapozhnikov I. V. Excavations by M. Ya. Yakimovich in 1905 near the village of Gofnungstal in the North-Western Black Sea region (after materials from the archives of the Imperial Archaeological Commission)

Annotation. The article is devoted to the cooperation in 1905 between the Imperial Archaeological Commission and Mechislav K. Yakimovich, reflected in the file “On the investigation of the burial ground near the Gofnungstal village of Kherson province”, which is kept in the Manuscript Department of the Scientific Archive of the Institute for the History of Material Culture of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Then the excavations were carried out at two burial mounds (materials from one of them date back to the Late Bronze Age), as well as the Nogay settlement of the 17th–18th centuries was excavated through exploratory pits and 20 graves without In. in the cemetery belonging to it. There Mechislav K. Yakimovich collected a very representative assemblage of anthropological materials. As for the objects of the Budzhak Nogays, on the basis of the cartographic data of the end of the 18th century they can be tentatively but quite reasonably associated with the aul Redjep (later the village of Rezhepovo) as described by the military engineer François Sainte de Wollant in 1791.

Виноградов Ю. А. А. Н. Карасёв. К 120-летию со дня рождения

Аннотация. Статья посвящена биографии известного советского археолога А. Н. Карасёва (1902–1972). Свою научную карьеру он начал в 1926 г. в Ольвии и затем стал одним из крупнейших специалистов по истории этой области. А. Н. Карасёв также работал на Боспоре, раскапывал Неаполь Скифский, городище «Чайка» и пр.

Vinogradov Yu. A. N. Karasev — to the 120th birthday anniversary

Annotation. The article is devoted to the biography of the famous Soviet archaeologist A. N. Karasev (1902–1972). He began his scientific career in 1926 in Olbia and then became one of the leading specialists in this field. A. N. Karasev also worked at Bosporus, excavated Scythian Naples, the ancient settlement “Chayka”, etc.

Шумкин В. Я. «Устремленный душой в Арктику» (к 90-летию археолога Леонида Павловича Хлобыстина)

Аннотация. Статья посвящена судьбе и деятельности доктора исторических наук, ведущего научного сотрудника, заместителя заведующего Ленинградским отделением Института археологии АН СССР, руководителя неолитической группы сектора палеолита ЛОИА АН СССР, одного из крупнейших специалистов в области археологии и древней истории Сибири и Крайнего Севера СССР Леонида Павловича Хлобыстина. Он проработал в институте 27 лет и принимал участие в открытии и раскопках многих знаковых для российской археологии памятников. Публикуется неизданный до этого документальный фотоматериал из семейного архива семьи Хлобыстиных.

Shumkin V. Ya. “With the soul yearning for the Arctic” (to the 90th anniversary of the archaeologist Leonid Pavlovich Khlobystin)

Annotation. The article presents the life and activities of Leonid Pavlovich Khlobystin, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Leading Researcher, Deputy Head of the Leningrad Department of the Institute of Archeology of the USSR Academy of Sciences, head of the Neolithic Group of the Palaeolithic Sector of the LOIA of the USSR Academy of Sciences, one of the most prominent specialists in the field of archaeology and ancient history of Siberia and the Arctic regions of the USSR. He has worked at our institute for 27 years and took part in the discovery and excavation of many significant monuments of Russian archeology. For the first time, unpublished documentary photo materials from the family archives of the Khlobystin family are published.
