invite you to take part in an international conference entitled

 

 


«ANCIENT CENTRAL ASIA IN A CONTEXT OF EURASIAN CULTURAL SPACE (NEW DATA AND CONCEPTS)»

 


to be held on the 20-22 November, 2019
in St. Petersburg (Russian Federation)

 

 


This conference will be dedicated to the 90th anniversary of VADIM M. MASSON (03.05.1929—19.02.2010), an outstanding Russian archaeologist and orientalist, the longterm head of the Leningrad Branch of the Institute Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR and the first director of the Institute for the History of Material Culture of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, Member of the Kongelige Danske Videnskabernes Selskab, the Society of Antiquaries of London, the Deutsches Archaeologisches Institut, the Istituto Italiano per lʼAfrica e lʼOriente, and Honorary Member of the Romanian Institute of Archaeology.

 


The following topics are proposed to be discussed at the conference:

1. Problems of chronology and cultural genesis of ancient sedentary societies of Central Asia, the Near and Middle East and Southeastern Europe (from the Neolithic period through the Early Iron Age).

2. The cattle-breeders of the Eurasian steppes, their contacts with the population of agricultural oases in the Bronze and Iron Ages.

3. The urban culture of Central Asia, the Near and Middle East in Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages.

4. The art of ancient population of Central Asia, the Near and Middle East (from the Neolithic period through the Early Middle Ages).

The conference locations: the Institute for the History of Material Culture of the Russian Academy of Sciences together with the State Hermitage Museum and the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences (all in St. Petersburg, Russian Federation).

The conference working languages: Russian and English.

 

Applications for participation in the conference should be sent by March 15, 2019 to the e-mail address.

The application must include: the participant’s (co-reporters’) full name (names) of participant; 16-digit number of the author (authors) in the ORCID system (at: https://orcid.org); scientific degree; position; place of work; e-mail address; paper title and brief annotation (no more than 10 sentences).

An abstract of up to 4000 characters with spaces + 1 b&w illustration or 1 plate (as tifformat file with resolution not less than 600 dpi) should be sent before June 1, 2019. The abstract should be added with a summary (up to 1000 characters with spaces) and keywords (up to 10 words), the author’s (authors’) full name, the paper title, the full and abbreviated names of the institution, city and country.

Abstracts and their summaries will be published on the Institute for the History of Material Culture’s website (electronic publication) prior to the start of the conference. More detailed requirements as for preparing the abstract will be set forth in the second informative letter.

According to the results of the conference, a collection of its papers is planned to be published in 2020. The respective detailed information will also be set out in the second informative letter.

 


Please note that the Organizing Committee of the conference is not able to cover travel, meals and accommodation costs for any of the participants.

The Organizing Committee reserves the right to reject the applications that do not correspond to the topics of the conference, as well as to select reports for poster presentations.
